Mountain Root began as a modest initiative founded by Connor Schmitz—a Cornell graduate with an M.P.S. in Controlled Environment Agriculture. He holds a B.S. in Ecology and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal for 27 months as an agricultural volunteer, among other work experiences. Drawing on extensive experience across diverse agricultural settings, Mountain Root will evolve into a trusted partner for both commercial and residential growers, farmers, and gardeners.

At Mountain Root, we believe that sharing expertise and cultivating knowledge is as important as growing healthy food. Our mission is to empower everyone to garden, regardless of experience or location. And on commercial farms, to execute efficient systems to decrease labor costs and improve unifmority and yields. We demonstrate that with the right techniques—be it indoor systems, greenhouses, or outdoor solutions—even Montana’s challenging climate can yield fresh, nutritious produce year‑round.

Scientific studies have shown that regular contact with soil and plants enriches the skin’s natural bacterial community, which in turn can improve overall health and mood. We are committed to not only appreciating the science behind the benefits of sustainable agriculture but also making it more accessible, on any scale.
